Welcome to the Blackboard e-Education platform,—designed to enable educational innovations everywhere by connecting people and technology.
To Blackboard Instructors:
Please note that DUT Blackboard services are in the process of being upgraded, to cater for large scale e-Learning. We request that you do not yet schedule summative / formal Bb assessments until next semester. The Blackboard assessment tools are an extremely valuable part of an e-learning programme, and we will all benefit from the robust and reliable service that will be available after the upgrade is complete.
We do apologise for any inconvenience, but in the meantime, please feel free to try out the assessment and quiz tools (for informal / formative purposes) and keep in touch with CELT e-Learning staff should you need assistance.
From the e-Learning team and the e-Learning Project Manager
For students: the FAQ Students will answer some of the common queries you may have about accessing Blackboard.
We hope that you find this resource useful and trust that this (website) would improve the way Blackboard at DUT has been supported.
Preggy Reddy (Blackboard Systems Administrator)
We are aware that content for the following dates has been corrupted.
14 February 2015 - 28 February 2015
01 March 2015 - 20 March 2015
This includes assignments which have been submitted during that period.
The reason why you cannot open the file is because it is corrupt/missing due to a power outage that occurred around the weekend of the 21st March
The reason why the link appears there is because the database was not affected (as this is separate to the Application instance), so the link is
to a file that is no longer available (this was corrupted in the Application server).
We have tried to recover the files but unfortunately some of these were unrecoverable. Since then we have moved the servers to ITSS and have put
in measures to prevent this from re-occurring.
Unfortunately the only option is for the content to be re-uploaded, if it was an assignment that a student submitted then they would have to resubmit their assignment.
We are aware that this problem will not be trivial to resolve (sourcing content and getting student's to resubmit assignments), and that your confidence in the Blackboard system may be understandably dented, we therefore implore you to work with us towards ensuring a more reliable system is put in place by supporting us in demanding the same. We have been pushing for a better system for the last 5 years but unfortunately it has taken this unfortunate incident to kick-start that process.
Please liaise with us regarding assistance with (re-uploading content) if needed. (http://elearning.dut.ac.za) for contact details.
On behalf of the e-Learning team.
